“Things are a lot better,” Auger-Aliassime said. I went to Wimbledon thinking it was going to stay that way and that I would be fine. Unfortunately, I felt pain towards the middle of the game.

“I did what I had to do to heal myself. My knee is fine at the moment. I’m back on the field and ready to fight with the best.

“If everything is fine physically, I’m convinced that I can approach the next tournaments with the same ambitions that I always had. My standards are no lower,” said Auger-Aliassime confidently.

Motivated by Alcaraz

The Montreal native also returned to the Grand Slam final clash between Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic on grass. The 20-year-old Spaniard won in five sets against the holder of 29 major singles titles.

“It awakens my competitiveness,” said Auger-Aliassime about the crowning of the world number 1. I also allow myself to speak for the other players [du circuit]. We don’t want him to win every tournament. It motivates me to do the right things.”

Canada’s top-ranked Canadian has consistently outplayed Alcaraz, beating them three times in four matches of his career. He also secured a win against Djokovic last September. “FAA” also retains an excellent memory.

“My win against him at the Laver Cup was great. It gave me a big confidence boost.”
