The arrested Senegalese diplomat owed the landlord over CAD$45,000

The Senegalese diplomat, whose arrest in Canada last week sparked an outcry in Dakar, owes her landlord more than C$45,000 in damages for severely damaging her home, a court document said. The Order of the Administrative Court for Housing, received by Radio-Canada on Monday evening and which AFP was able to consult, shows that Oumou Kalsoum Sall was convicted on June 2 for “unpaid rent” and “Compensation for damage to accommodation”.

“racist act”

“The furniture is full of cockroaches. The furniture is worn and scratched. It’s missing. Everything is dirty”, we can read in the document that adds that four treatments against the harmful ones have not made it possible to get rid of them. We learn that too “The flooring in the basement is soaked through and there is mold on the basement walls.” That verdict came after the Senegalese Foreign Ministry on Friday ordered the arrest of its associate, citing a “racist act” violent and committed despite the “Victim’s diplomatic status and inviolability of his homeland”.

Canadian Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland responded with a denunciation at a news conference on Tuesday “Acts of brutality (…) unacceptable”. On the same day, Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly also specified that she had met her Senegalese counterpart and assured him that the Canadian government “Looking forward to a full investigation” in that case. On Saturday, the government of Quebec — the province where the incident occurred — announced the opening of a police investigation by Quebec police “A police operation that raises questions”.

The police in Gatineau, a Quebec suburb of the Canadian federal capital Ottawa, admitted the altercation that took place at a bailiff’s on Friday evening “with a prescription to be executed” asked the police for help. Police said they turned themselves in “a person who is aggressive and uncooperative”. “A policewoman was hit in the face and injured” displays a statement, and “The police have therefore decided to make the arrest” of the diplomat. But she “resisted” and “wounded by a bite from a second policeman”. HAS “none” moment the diplomat “did not mention being hurt or in pain”underlines the police, who, however without further details, acknowledge that an ambulance was dispatched a few minutes later.
