The persistent dry weather in northern Quebec and Ontario is not helping to bring them under control.
The five major fires that are still uncontained in northwestern Quebec include the Lebel-sur-Quévillon Great Fire, which covers more than 400,000 hectares, and the Chibougamau.
” There are about thirty fires that we are actively fighting. These are what are known as Priority 1 or 2 fires. When communities or strategic infrastructure are threatened, we certainly intervene. But of course there are fires that we let loose for a few days. We provide a lookout but cannot guarantee continuous operation. »
The Ministry of Public Security indicated that the preventive evacuation notice is still in force in the Mile 20 sector at Senneterre in Abitibi-Témiscamingue.
In North-du-Québec, in Lebel-sur-Quévillon, the return of the residents of the municipality is scheduled for Saturday, public security reports.
