From 1608 to 2022

In four 15-minute episodes, historian Dale Gilbert takes us through just over 400 years of history in the Saint-Sauveur district.

He returns to Samuel de Champlain’s original desire to found a city on the banks of the Saint-Charles River before choosing the Cap Diamond sector for founding Quebec.

We also come back to the construction of wealthy villas and country houses in the sector now occupied by the Saint-Sauveur district. This was before the creation of the village of Boisseauville, which took the name of Saint-Sauveur in 1872.

Dale Gilbert is also interested in the development of many communities in the 20th century. Their numbers have gradually declined since the 1990s.

The historian also looks at the impact of modernism and the development of the suburbs, which will ensure a large exodus after World War II.

Finally, Dale Gilbert adds that the neighborhood has regained vitality in recent years and its population has been increasing for a number of years.
