Ringing in a New Year is like being handed the biggest sheet of blank paper and how you choose to fill and decorate that piece of paper is entirely yours. A New Year is full of possibility.
New Year’s Eve is also a time I like to reflect on the year just ending, both the highs and the lows. 2017 was an especially big year for Gift in Time, full of successes, roadblocks, opportunity and learning. If I could describe our year in one word I’d have to use the word “big.” Yes, it was a big year at Gift in Time. Here’s a few highlights from our year looking in the rearview mirror.
January 2017: Meeting our tech team face-to-face in Bangalore, India. A “big” cultural experience, both personally and professionally.
February 2017: The long-awaited launch of our website. A “big” emotional experience.
Speaking as a “Business Delegate” at University of British Columbia Imprint Conference. It was a “big” refreshing evening surrounded by young, enthusiastic, impressionable minds.
June 2017: Expanding our model to include wholesaling our bespoke greeting cards. A “big” opportunity to not only offer our bespoke cards online but also in 16 brick-and-mortar stores throughout North America. We most recently entered the U.K. market. More stores to come.
September 2017: Attending the Vancouver Gift Expo: A “big” learning experience and opportunity to present our cards in person rather than just online. This show saw us sign-up 6 new wholesale clients and lead us to making the decision to attend the Seattle Gift Expo in January 2018.
November 2017: Being asked to pitch for FWE (Future Women’s Entrepreneur) Pitch for the Purse competition. A “big” scary challenge. A first for me and one which I’ll definitely try again next year.
Becoming a member of VanCity Business Babes. A “big” brilliant group of like-minded women in our community, thriving to be the best we can be in our fields and lift each other up along the way.
Although these are just a few of the highlights from our 2017, everyday saw new challenges and opportunities. New clients, new vendors, the thrill of receiving orders from all over the world, new team members, new marketing ideas, the list goes on.
2017 was a big, exciting year for Gift in Time and because of how good it was we’re sad to kiss it goodbye tonight but we’re also thrilled for the moment the clock strikes 12 and we’re handed that blank sheet of paper titled 2018.
Happy New Year!
